After breeding and showing Airedale Terriers with the "Chalma" prefix since 1974, we were introduced to the Cesky Terrier when we acquired Ch Alchemy Milenka's Baron Chalma (Ch. Artax Andel X Milenka Ginoch Kvitko) in 1998. Although absent from the show ring for a few years, we started exhibiting again in a few rare breed shows. The Cesky Terrier was officially recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club on January 1, 2000 and allowed to compete in regular classes in the Terrier Group. We quickly became enamoured with the breed and after attending the Cesky Symposium in the Czech Republic in 2000 our compliment of Cesky Terriers began to grow. Since 2002 we have bred seven litters. Given the relatively small gene pool of the breed, our imports from The Netherlands, Finland and Poland have provided us with bloodlines that both expand and compliment what we started with. We show our dogs on a limited basis. A number of our puppies have been shown to their championships by their owners in both Canada and the United States and a female Chalma’s Giselle from our “G Litter” is having a very successful show career in Finland. In recent years we have returned to the Czech Republic, visiting Crufts in Birmingham England and have exhibited at the Montgomery County Terrier Show. We have also visited Finland to attend the 2014 World Show and to see the breeder and parents of our Finnish imports. We are both active members of the Canadian National Cesky Terrier Club. Valerie is the past President and Michael is the newsletter editor. We plan to continue to breed and show our dogs on a selective basis.
